SONY A7 III REVIEW

Sony’s A7 III is one of the best mirrorless cameras. Whether it’s day or night, you can shoot fantastic high-quality images with excellent dynamic range. The autofocus of this camera accurately captures fast-moving objects. The most amazing thing is that this camera captures the sharpest 4K video compared to most full-frame mirrorless cameras. Moreover, it fires bursts at 10 fps.

However, the viewfinder and EVF are not that sharp compared to other cameras. Regardless of that, Sony’s A7 IIIis the best $2,000 camera you could ever buy.

HANDLING

Sony A7 III has a large and comfortable grip. Its size is just perfect for photo and video shooting. It’s a bit heavier than its predecessor but that only adds to its stability. It offers 710 shots per charge. You can shoot for hours and still have a lot of battery left.

The video record button is next to the electronic viewfinder. In A7 IIISony had added the joystick that was really needed. It allows you to change the focus area while you’re looking through the electronic viewfinder. It has 13 customizable buttons that help to change the settings easily. The menu system has been improved.

Sony A7 III has 2.36 million dots electronic viewfinder and its magnification is also improved a bit. When it comes to wireless controls and image transfers, the A7 III comes with WiFi, NFC, and Bluetooth. So, it is easier to synchronize the smartphone as well. You can also install the PlayMemories mobile app on your device but it lags a bit.

PERFORMANCE

Sony’s autofocus system has always been excellent. The A7 III can fire bursts at high speeds. Even if you’re running, A7 III offers sharp images while using the center and flexible spot autofocus.

The other modes including zone, area, extended flexible spot also work well. Yet the most amazing one is Sony’s eye-tracking autofocus, it locks onto the object’s eyes. It means that the object will always be in focus.

IMAGE AND VIDEO QUALITY:

The A7 III performs extremely well in low light. It is due to the back-side-illuminated (BSI) 24.2-megapixel sensor which has a dual-gain design. It increases the available light to the sensor, reduces noise, and provides excellent detail even in dim light.

The high-ISO RAW performance of A7 III is great in shadow areas. It is a useful feature that solves lighting problems for both photos and videos. It produces crisp videos and photos. In JPEGs, the skin tones look very natural and the colors are accurate. However, in low light, the colors tend to be a bit warm. The JPEG noise reduction and sharpening are great too.

When it comes to videos, it captures a perfectly sharp 4K video at 24fps from the 24.2-megapixel (6K) sensor. If you shoot at 30 fps, it produces a less detailed footage. For autofocus, the “Centre Lock-on AF” is suitable for isolating a particular object.

WHAT I LIKE:

  • Great handling
  • Fast 10 fps shooting
  • Excellent autofocus
  • Sharp 4K video
  • Good battery life

WHAT I DON’T LIKE:

  • EVF and viewfinder is not very good
